Iowa Workforce Development expects to collect $1.6 million in new fees from businesses attempting to shirk their unemployment taxes, Radio Iowa reported. The agency has been authorized by legislators to fine businesses $500 if they fail to properly register as employers, and $200 if they send registration paperwork through the mail instead of filing and paying unemployment taxes electronically.
