Some businesses closed but a record number opened

Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate said in a press release there have been a record amount of new business filings during the recent fiscal year. In Ottumwa, the news has been mixed: Two major retailers left town during the past 12 months. Department stores and other big chains have closed locations around Iowa. But there were multiple smaller stores that opened here.
 
"It's the small ones that are going to sustain our community, and our way of life," said Connie Hammersley Wilson, executive director of the Ottumwa Area Chamber of Commerce. "And it's a wide array of businesses and services." Read More

Active Iowa Business Entities

This dataset provides a list of active business entities, both domestic business organizations (organized under and subject to the laws of Iowa), and foreign business organizations (organized under a law other than Iowa) who are authorized to transact business in the State of Iowa at time of update. The dataset includes the business' legal name, type, effective date, name and address of registered agent, and address of principal office.
