While ICCE does not lobby at the state level, we do commit to educating our members on the business issues facing the State of Iowa.
Through direct communication with our members, ICCE serves as a resource for local chambers at the Iowa Capitol. Many local chambers are in continual contact with their legislators and ICCE provides the tools local chambers need to have educated conversations with their legislators and legislative leaders on issues important to the business community. We will also assist you with advice on Capitol visits for you or your community.
There are number of issues from the 2012 Legislative Session that remain on the table for consideration in 2013. While the November election could have an impact on the close margin in the Senate affecting the priorities that we could see debated in 2013, Governor Branstad and other leaders will have agenda items from 2012 that will remain active. We have yet to see commercial property tax reform, although it has been listed as a priority by both parties, the Governor continues discussion on education reform measures, and economic development will need to be a top priority for both sides of the aisle.
The 2013 Legislative Session will include regular updates to ICCE members on critical issues. Many resources can be found on the Iowa Legislature website, including lists of legislators, bills that have been introduced, studies and reports.
